Family
& Friends:
As
you know, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in April 2008. I
have quickly learned that I am not the only one affected by my
diagnosis - it has affected my family and friends deeply as well.
And having a sister and a cousin who have/had breast cancer before,
it is, unfortunately, a familiar subject in our family.
I
am past the shocked phase, and am now angry! I just don't understand
how one cell in our body can decide to go haywire and cause all
kinds of problems! I want this cured so I don't have to worry
about my daughter, my sisters, my niece, my friends...
This
is my family - my heart and soul:
You
can bet I will do everything in my power to be with them for a
long time to come.
But
as I sit here writing this, my surgery that was scheduled for
May 6 has been postponed. My MRI I had last Friday showed something
else, and now I am scheduled for another biopsy on May 7. The
results from that will better help determine the surgery I need
and my new surgery date. I've already been told I'll need chemotherapy
after surgery, but we'll know if I need radiation or not depending
on what they find during surgery.
So
for now I guess I'm just supposed to sit and wait.... But that's
not me!
On
the way to work the other day, I came up with an idea to help
raise money to find a cure for breast cancer. I thought "What
if I design a t-shirt that friends and family can purchase, where
the proceeds will go to benefit breast cancer research? And on
that t-shirt could be a website address that people could visit
that would show them how to have their own t-shirt fundraiser?
And it could build from there, with all proceeds going towards
breast cancer research!" So that is what I have set out
to do.
My
family has been overwhelmed (in a good way!) with your wonderful
offers of prayers, good thoughts, and offers to help with meals
and getting the kids to their activities during my recovery. We
appreciate all of you so much!
One
big piece of advice I have received from others is to let people
help me, which has always been hard for me to do for whatever
reason. But I have decided to accept that advice. And so now I'm
going to ask you, my family and friends, if you would help me
with this fundraiser.
Would you be willing to purchase a t-shirt for yourself......or
for your daughter, sister, mom, aunt, grandmother, niece, cousin,
wife, friend?
Or, would
you be willing to forward this information to some of your friends?
Once
the t-shirts have arrived, would you be willing to help get the
t-shirts to your family and/or friends if they order one?
I
realize you all have better looking shirts in your wardrobe! But
if you would consider wearing this t-shirt once in a while when
you work out, run to the grocery store, mow your lawn, go somewhere
on vacation, go to a ballgame....just one person might see it
and check out the website and decide to do their own fundraiser
for breast cancer research as well!
Thank
you in advance for any help you are able to give!

The
t-shirts are available in the 5 colors shown to the left, and
are Gilden brand. 6.1 oz. 100% preshrunk cotton; Sports Grey is
a poly/cotton blend. Generous Fit. High quality, heavyweight t-shirt.
Available in sizes Youth XS up to Adult XXL. I have ordered from
this company twice in the past for softball, and have been extremely
pleased with the quality of the shirts and the printing.
Your
name will be listed on the t-shirt, as well as the website. If
you are not comfortable putting your full name on the shirt or
website, I can put your first name and last initial, or a nickname,
or Anonymous.
I
will post a copy of the t-shirt invoice and a copy of the money
order that I purchase to send to the Susan
G. Komen for the Cure. Every
penny above the cost of the t-shirts will go to the Susan
G. Komen for the Cure.
The more t-shirts that are purchased, the cheaper they become,
and the more money we can raise to help find a cure!
Once
this fundraiser is completed, this website will be updated with
our successful (hopefully!) fundraising total, and will include
step by step instructions to aid others in holding their own breast
cancer research t-shirt fundraiser.
